A couple of weekends ago, my journey took me a little bit off of Main Street. Universal Orlando’s Mardi Gras runs February 1 to April 2 this year. As a Texas native, and previously a student of The University of Louisiana Lafayette as a member of the Pride of Acadiana Marching Band, I proudly call myself a Ragin’ Cajun. So, considering my heritage, I was wildly skeptical of an event celebrating a holiday for weeks, that, by true tradition, is only one day a year.
Universal Mardi Gras does it right!! The Mardi Gras Spirit is all through the park.
We found some irresistible merchandise.
To experience the event at its best, we decided to opt for an upgrade. We purchased the separately ticketed event, the Mardi Gras Bayou Boil Dining Experience and man, was it worth every penny?!! OMG Yes!!!!
We got checked into the dinner in Battery Park. The smell of Cajun seasoning filled the air. You are provided two drink tickets for anything you would like from the bar. They sat us at a long table with other patrons. We quickly made friends. Buckets of boiled crawfish, shrimp, sausage, corn and potatoes are served across the table. They have chicken and andouille sausage jambalaya as an alternative to those who are not fond of seafood.
Along with the Bayou boil dinner, you also get an exclusive parade viewing area right at the parade start. Additionally, there is a dessert party with the ticket. It includes King Cake, beignets, sparkling wine and non-alcoholic beverages.
The Poppy Troll I purchased earlier in the day, but I enjoyed all of the beads I got during the parade.
