It’s official–the Walt Disney World resort will no longer be taking the temperatures of its employees and guests prior to entering Disney property starting later this month. The practice first began as a requirement for the theme park resort to reopen following its temporary closure due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, it seems things are slowly going back to the way they used to be.
In an official statement on the Walt Disney World website, the company writes:
“Following the advice of the CDC and our local health officials, we will phase out onsite temperature screenings at Walt Disney World Resort for Cast Members beginning May 8 and Guests on May 16.”
The company says it is making the change based on ever changing guidance from public health authorities, government agencies and its own team of health and safety experts. At this time, it is not known if any other changes will be coming to the theme parks’ current COVID-19 precautions.
Currently, the company has several COVID-19 precautions put in place. Most familiar is the enactment of the theme park reservation system, which requires park guests with valid admissions to book a day visit to the parks in advance in an attempt to keep the number of visitors in the parks below a certain percentage.
The last time the company discussed the number of guests allowed in the parks it was revealed to be at only 35% of its normal capacity.
This news also comes following Florida Governor Ron DeSantis suspending all remaining COVID-19 restrictions for the state of Florida earlier this week, saying: “We are no longer in a state of emergency.”
