According to a new report by the New York Post, it seems a group of Disney fans upset over the direction The Walt Disney Company has taken under the leadership of Bob Chapek have bought company stock and are threatening to vote out CEO Bob Chapek in his upcoming re-election at the March 9 annual shareholder meeting.
Per the New York Post’s recent report, these same fans have taken to Reddit to organize against the re-election of Chapek. On the social news website and forum, these fans state they are unhappy with the increase of ticket prices at the Disney Parks as well as “the declining customer service at the theme parks”–in addition to several other things.
This is all taking place under a thread on Reddit called “Unhappy with the Current State of Disney Parks?” In the thread, a user wrote:
“If you are a Disney shareholder you likely received an email yesterday asking you to vote in the annual meeting. Bob Chapek is up for re-election to the board of directors.”
“This is the most direct way to let Disney know if you are unhappy with his leadership, at least more so than complaining on Reddit or signing an online petition,” the Reddit user added. “It may seem insignificant, and will likely not be successful in removing him directly, but recall that Michael Eisner lost 43% of the vote in 2004 after Roy E. Disney lead a campaign to oust him and he was removed shortly thereafter. We can do this again.”
Upon scrolling through the thread, many Reddit users can be seen sharing their distaste over some of the changes that have come to the Disney Parks over the past few years, under the direction of Chapek.
This isn’t the only uproar that has come against the current CEO. Late last year a user on Change.org created a “Fire Bob Chapek” petition, which currently has over 95,000 signatures.
What are your thoughts on these shareholders planning to attempt to vote out CEO Bob Chapek? Let us know in the comments!
