Shanghai Disneyland Closes Again as Covid Cases Rise

From the Walt Disney World News and written by: Sean Sposato

It seems the international Disney Resort Shanghai Disneyland has closed once again due to COVID-19 pandemic. And according to new reports, it seems the closure was due to Shanghai’s biggest flareup of the virus in over two years.

According to a report by ABC news, China’s case numbers in its latest infection wave are low compared with other major countries, but authorities are still enforcing a “zero tolerance” strategy that has suspended access to some major cities and the closure of the beloved theme park resort.

The government reported 2,027 new cases on the Chinese mainland on Sunday, up from the previous day’s 1,737. That included 1,542 infections in Jilin province, where Changchun and Jilin are located.

Announced on Monday, The resort listed on its official website the following statement:

Due to the current pandemic situation, Shanghai Disney Resort, including Shanghai Disneyland, Disneytown and Wishing Star Park will be temporarily closed from Monday, March 21, 2022. We will continue to monitor the pandemic situation and consult local authorities, and will notify guests as soon as we have a confirmed date to resume operations.

We apologize for the inconvenience and will provide refund or exchange for all guests impacted during this period. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation! We look forward to seeing you soon!

The park closed for the first time due to the virus in 2020 when it spread for the first time around the world. Since this initial closing, Shanghai Disneyland, and several other Disney Parks found around the world, have temporarily closed and reopened multiple times following the rise and fall of COVID cases.

At this time, it is not known when the resort will reopen. Keep following along with The Main Street Mouse as we monitor this ongoing story!
